APPLICATION NOTE
All-Fiber ASE Filters for the Design of High-Power Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers
Written by Samuel Gouin, eng., M. Sc. | Product Line Manager - Fiber Laser Components
September 2024 | Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) can be a major challenge in fiber laser and amplifier designs, especially when targeting high gain, high energy, or non-standard wavelengths. Common methods to suppress ASE - like large core areas, W-type refractive index profiles, isolators, or bandpass filters - each have limitations, such as degraded beam quality, restricted pump power, or inefficiency at high power levels. Innovative solutions are needed to overcome these obstacles without compromising performance.
The application note covers:
- FBG-Based All-Fiber ASE Filter
- ASE Filters for 1018 nm Fiber Lasers
- ASE Filters in Spectral Beam Combining Applications
- ASE Filters for Er/Yb Co-Doped Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers
